Ilocos Norte is also known as a northern tourist destination, being the location of Fort Ilocandia, an upper class beach resort famous among expatriates, and Pagudpud.

PASUQUIN, Ilocos Nor­te—Members of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) stationed in this town and some local officials have been denounced for allegedly protecting illegal loggers operating inside the watershed.
The sources said the alleged participation of some Pasuquin officials was uncovered when a chain saw used in cutting down the trees and which was owned by the municipal government was recovered inside the watershed.
One of the active participants in the campaign is Mariano “No­nong” Marcos 2nd, a neophyte in the Ilocos Norte provincial board, or Sangguniang Panlala­wigan.

Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte—Pebble picking, which is the main livelihood of some 200 family residents here, continues despite a local ban, the provincial police office reported.
Mayor Oscar D. Aguinaldo of Pasuquin told the Manila Times it was not easy to stop people from violating the anti-pebble picking law because the municipal government cannot offer the people an alternative livelihood.
Senior Superintendent Juan Luna of the provincial police office said he met with Pasuquin officials in an attempt to convince them to act on the complaints received by his office in Camp Valentin S. Juan in Laoag City.

MEMBERS of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Air Force based in Ilocos Norte came under heavy fire from Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) members during the provincial board’s hearing on the illegal logging being conducted at the Dilomot Watershed in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.
The hearing was scheduled after personnel of the Ilocos Norte Water District (INWD), custodian of the Dilomot Watershed, publicly protested the illegal logging activities being conducted at the watershed area.
INWD informants further alleged that the chainsaws owned by Pasuquin’s municipal government had been used in illegally cutting trees in the watershed area and that the logging activities had been conducted for almost a year now or since Col. Scott Albano took over command of the Paredes Air Station in Barangay Sapat, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.

THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) is set to summon elements of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) to explain their side on the allegations of several Barangay Sapat, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte residents that the military personnel are linked the illegal logging operations being conducted in the Ilocos Norte Water District (INWD) Dilomot Watershed in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.
The Ilocos Times also learned that a unit of chainsaw that was allegedly used in the activity is owned by the Pasuquin municipal government.
Meanwhile, the INWD is set to conduct reforestation activities to rehabilitate the Dilomot Watershed and to wage a campaign to instill public awareness on the importance of the watershed and the project.

Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte -- The Provincial Epidemiologist and Surveillance Unit (PESU) of Ilocos Norte reported on Wednesday that improper food handling and preparation of the snacks by parents of a birthday celebrator were the main causes of the food poisoning that downed at least 64 pupils and teachers in this town last week.
The whole Grade 1 class of the West Central School in Pasuquin, totaling 54 pupils and seven teachers were taken at the GRASHM in Laoag City due to suspected food poisoning.
Also, at least three pupils of the Gabaldon Elementary School in Pasuquin who were invited by the celebrator to their home to observe his 7th birthday were rushed at the Rural Health Unit in Pasuquin after they started showing signs of food poisoning.

A MODERATE earthquake of tectonic origin jolted the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Cagayan and Abra in the Northern Philippines on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake measured intensity 3.4 on the Richter City in Laoag City, intensity 2 in Pasuquin Ilocos Norte and Peñablanca town, Cagayan, and intensity 1 in Bangued town, Abra, Phivolcs said in a statement.
Phivolcs said movements in the Vigan-Vintar fault were the cause of the quake.
