 Philly's cheesesteak crown - Weekend
He named his restaurant Geno's Steaks and strategically built it on the same street as the already thriving Pat's.
Geno´s Steaks at 9th Street and Passayunk Avenue light up the South Philadelphia night with their trademark marquee.
Not only is the food great at Geno's but the wait is usually short, which gives it a definite edge over Pat's and its seemingly never-ending line.

 Cheesesteak Challenge - Philadelphia Citysearch
Ever since the late, great Pat Olivieri (the rogue hotdog vendor who invented the cheesesteak and subsequently founded Pat's King of Steaks) first slapped a couple greasy slivers of beef scraps on a roll with some onions, cheesesteak joints have popped up in every corner of the globe.
At cheesesteak birthplace Pat's King of Steaks, they come with Cheez Whiz and onions unless the customer specifies otherwise (Provolone and American cheese are acceptable alternatives).
Traditionally, cheesesteaks are cheese and steak on a roll.

Pat's Steaks, Phillies-Yankees by Calvin and Bill Pollak
Pats Philly cheese steaks were very good and greasy.
I remarked that a cheese steak that is the equal of Pats can be had in many places in Philly, as well as (more sacrilege) in Pittsburgh and I am sure in other cities as well.
Rebecca and Calvin opted for the provolone, which I consider to be sacrilege; a Philly cheese steak must be smothered in Cheese Whiz if it is to provide the full experience of meaty, cheesy, greasy perfection, not to mention the full dose of cholesterol.
