Mike DeWine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Michael DeWine (born January 5, 1947) is an American politician from Ohio, where he was born and lived until he was elected to the United States Congress.
He was then elected to the United States Senate in the election of 1994, defeating prominent attorney Joel Hyatt (the son-in-law of former U.S. Sen. Howard Metzenbaum), and was reelected in 2000, defeating former Congressman Frank Cremeans in the primary and Ted Celeste (brother of former Ohio Gov. Richard F. Celeste) in the general election.
On May 23, 2005, DeWine was one of fourteen moderate senators to forge a compromise on the Democrats' use of the judicial filibuster, thus blocking the Republican leadership's attempt to implement the so-called " nuclear option ".

I will be the first to admit that I have qualms about Pat Dewine the person, and in fact did not vote for him for Commissioner because he doesn't share my values.
Pat Dewine may have connections, but he did just jump to a high office.
The decision between Dewine and Brinkman is a pretty easy one for me. I have a guy on one side who has proven to be about every opportunity to advance himself and on the other side a guy with an unmatched unwavering fiscal and moral conservative record.

Where Senator DeWine happened to be standing was appropriate, for the political gutter is where the DeWine name has been dragged in the last couple of years.

Pat DeWine has shown about as much loyalty to those who elected him as he did to the woman who married him.

Throughout his first term, DeWine often joined with his two colleagues in the Republican minority on Council in unsuccessful efforts to curb the city's spending and cut back or eliminate what they said were wasteful programs, while pushing the city to focus on providing basic services such as trash pickup and snow removal.
DeWine acknowledges that name recognition may have helped, but said the showing was mostly due to voters connecting with his ''back to the basics'' theme.
DeWine has pushed to change the police arbitration system after the city lost every case involving police officers fired for misconduct that has gone to arbitration during the past five years.
