Pat Hare Biography - AOL Music
After working with Cotton and numerous others around the Memphis area, Hare moved North to Chicago and by the late '50s was a regular member of the Muddy Waters band, appearing on the legendary Live at Newport, 1960 album.
By all accounts Pat was a quiet, introspective man when sober, but once he started drinking the emotional tables turned in the opposite direction.
After moving to Minneapolis in the '60s to work with fellow Waters bandmate Mojo Bruford, Hare was convicted of murder after a domestic dispute, spending the rest of his life behind bars.

WGBH | Pat Hare   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
It was there that Hare fell in as a guitar player, joining the band of then-regional star Howlin' Wolf, garnering a reputation as a talented sideman on stage and a tough character to mess with offstage.
It was as a sideman that Hare grabbed the attention of would-be record producer Sam Phillips, who was opening a recording space in Memphis called Sun Studio.
In this way, Hare was far ahead of his contemporaries (or those almost a generation away, for that matter) by using heavily distorted guitar to achieve a desired level of passion and energy.

Hare had a stinging guitar style, one that was muscular and distorted well before the era of rock guitar gods.
Hare played with the legendary Waters band from 1957 to 1960, when it was perhaps at its most influential, cutting songs like “She’s 19 Years Old.” The band included Hare’s partner Cotton on harmonica and Otis Spann on piano.
Hare was sent to Stillwater Prison near Minneapolis in 1962 with a 99-year sentence and, although he was sometimes released to play shows, he did not complete his sentence, dying in prison on Sept. 26, 1980, at the age of 49.

 PAT HARE
Born Auburn Hare (and it's hard to believe that such a name wouldn't have raised eyebrows even in rural Arkansas!) in the Cross County town of Cherry Valley, Pat immediately took to the guitar in a big way.
But Hare also found time in May 1954 to record a couple of sides under his own name, both of which remained unissued in the Sun vaults till many years later: "Bonus Pay" (Sun 997), a fast-paced R&B romp, and the infamous "I'm Gonna Murder My Baby", which proved to be chillingly prophetic.
Hare also toured extensively with Parker during 1954-55, and in 1956 he was a member of the Junior Parker band that toured the South in tandem with another Duke artist Bobby "Blue" Bland.
