Roach is primarily remembered for his wrestling exploits against the cream of the British scene, notably Giant Haystacks, whom Roach defeated for the European Heavyweight title in 1991.
Pat worked extensively in the United States in the early 1980s in California for the LeBell brothers, as well as for the Nashville wrestling promotion where he was a part of a heel tag team called The Royal Family.
Roach was so widely respected in the physical culture world (fitness and bodybuilding) that when he published his autobiography entitled IF, his old friend from Conan the Destroyer, Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote the forward.

Pat Roach, who has died of cancer aged 67, was the solid rock of the extraordinarily popular 1980s Central Televsion series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, which followed the fortunes of a group of British building workers venturing abroad, initially to prosperous West Germany, to find employment.
Roach is said to have been given his first acting role by Stanley Kubrick, in A Clockwork Orange (1971); the director certainly used him again in his costume movie Barry Lyndon (1975).
Roach had contracted cancer by the time the idea of a single television film of Auf Wiedersehen was revived, with the lads heading, this time, for America.

Roach found himself winning two roles in the movie- the first as a large Sherpa who attacks Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) in a Nepalese bar early in the film and then more famously as a bald Nazi airplane mechanic with whom Indy fist fights while dodging an airplanes whirling propellers.
Lucas would also bring Roach to another film he produced, Willow (1988), where he played the villainous General Kael, a role that allowed him to be not only an imposing physical presence but to have a few moments acting opposite Jean Marsh's Queen Bavmorda.
Roach appeared opposite another screen hero in 1983's Never Say Never Again as an assassin out to kill Sean Connery's James Bond in a rather brutal fight in a health club.

I was in England at the time and did manage to see Pat wrestle on several occasions in the U.K. He was immensely popular and later when he was filming most of the time he liked to have a few wrestling bouts between films.

Anyway,the Nepalese sherpa having a drinking battle with Marion (Karen Allen) was played by an actor called Pat Roach.
However,I am convinced there were two Pat Roaches:the Nepalese man was a burly,wiry haired man who had appeared many times on British television (I think he's from Yorkshire) and the mechanic was definately the future "Bomber".
Pat Roach did play 2 parts in Raiders -- as a "Giant Sherpa" in that section of the film and later on as the German "1st Mechanic".

Pat Roach, the only actor who appeared in all three Indy films besides Ford, has said that he would most likely be in Indy 4.
Pat was a very polite guy, friendly, and came across as a gentle-giant type of guy.

Pat was last seen in the wrestling circle working for the FWA as their commissioner a role he was stepping down from due to his illness.
