Patrick Joseph "Pat" Toomey (born November 17, 1961 in Providence, Rhode Island) is a United States politician.
In the early 1990s, Toomey moved to the Lehigh Valley with his brothers to open a series of bars and restaurants in the area.
Toomey's campaign theme was that Specter, a moderate-to-liberal figure, was not conservative enough to be the Republican nominee from Pennsylvania.

Toomey has for the better part of a year waged an aggressive campaign in spite of the support Specter has received from a wide range of Republican leaders, including President Bush, Vice President Cheyney, U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, and virtually the entire Republican establishment in Pennsylvania, conservatives and moderates alike.
Toomey must win the rural parts of the state and generate a larger than usual turnout among his base of voters.
