State parks are beginning to implement higher fees this summer, Ream said, so this means the parks could meet their revenue goals with fewer visitors.
Lake Havasu City recently put up a Web site offering deep discounts on hotels and restaurants in town, but city officials said this was not a response to seeing fewer tourists on the lake.
Lake Havasu continued to churn in revenue last year, despite an 8 percent dip in visitation for the year.

On a recent twilight excursion, Parks, who is a State Parks ranger, led a pontoon party of six on a slow-speed cruise of the 265-acre lake.

The Patagonia Lake State Park hopes to open expanded hiking and birding areas, and VOAz is helping with trail construction.
We camped at the developed sites at the park, pretty high end, and not a wilderness adventure by any means-bathrooms, showers, fire pits, etc. It is a good facility for a developed site, and it was wonderful to have hot showers after digging and grubbing in the dirt.
The Park provided a guided tour of the lake Saturday evening with a biology and history lesson of the area--a great way to unwind a bit after the day shoveling, lifting and hauling.

Patagonia, 18 miles north of Nogales on Ariz. 82, is a historic old mining and ranching town 4,000 feet up in the Patagonia Mountains.
To reach the sanctuary, which is just outside Patagonia on a dirt road that parallels Ariz. 82, turn west on Fourth Avenue and then south on Pennsylvania Street, cross the creek and continue about 1 mile.
The lake is 2 1/2 miles long and stocked in winter with rainbow trout.

 Lake Patagonia to Florida Canyon - 2/23
The drive from Sierra Vista to Patagonia along SR 82 was equally beautiful, with dawn arriving over the eastern mountains and some very nice scenery.
Other interesting birds found at Lake Patagonia included three rails (Coot, Sora and Virginia), Bewick's Wren, Bushtit, and Verdin (one of my favorite birds), Vesper Sparrow, Gadwall (always a good bird), Ruddy Duck, Hermit Thrush, Townsend's Solitaire, Marsh Wren, Say's Phoebe, and Gray Flycatcher.
After Lake Patagonia, Stuart took us to Kino Springs where we found a couple of Lawrence's Goldfinches.

It's the next one to the west, which is accessed by foot via the sidewalk that diverges from the road and loops around the north side of the park.
The second pair was in the willows between the mesquite bosque and the lake (near the third wash).
