Pathophysiology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pathophysiology is the study of the disturbance of normal mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions, either caused by a disease, or resulting from a disease or abnormal syndrome or condition that may not qualify to be called a disease.
An example, from the field of infectious disease, would be the study of a toxin released by a bacterium, and what that toxin does to the body to cause harm, one possible result being sepsis.
Pathophysiology can be looked at as the intersection of two older, related disciplines: (normal) physiology and pathology.

 LYMPHEDEMA PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Despite the advances in technology and our knowledge of anatomy and physiology, the lymphatic system is almost as mysterious now as it was in the 1800s, when Milroy first described a family with lymphedema passing through six generations.6 Much of the pathophysiology discussed later is speculative, based on animal studies and theory.
Although there are centers that specialize in the treatment of lymphedema, most often it is diagnosed and managed by the primary care physician, along with a team of health care professionals.
To give a complete overview of primary lymphedema, this paper will review the pathophysiology of the disease, the association with several developmental disorders, the genetic inheritance, and the management and treatment in clinical practice today.

PA-05-030: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Pathophysiology and Treatment
Applications that address gaps in our understanding of the environmental and biological risk factors, the determinants of heterogeneity among patient populations, and the common mediators influencing multiple body systems that are affected in CFS are encouraged.
Well designed studies are needed to provide a better understanding of CFS, prevalence, pathogenesis, and pathophysiology, with the goal of developing improved diagnostic and intervention strategies.
The heterogeneity of the CFS population should be recognized in both basic and clinical research; thus sex, age/developmental stage, racial and ethnic variations should be considered along with any subtyping of CFS in the study designs.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a nondegenerative, noncongenital insult to the brain from an external mechanical force, possibly leading to permanent or temporary impairments of cognitive, physical, and psychosocial functions with an associated diminished or altered state of consciousness.
Inconsistency in definition and classification of TBI, along with discrepancies in data collection, has made the epidemiology of TBI difficult to describe accurately.
In particular, all drug doses, indications, and contraindications should be confirmed in the package insert.
