Commander Mihadon, along with another Abu Sayyaf commander who was killed in the encounter, was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of 21 tourists and workers from the Malaysian resort of Sipadan in 2000.
Colonel Juancho Sabban, 3rd Marine Brigade commander, said that their forces in Sulu have already occupied some of Abu Sayyaf lairs in Patikul as aggressive operations are ongoing.

Virgilio Fernandez said the M. Abubakar Consolidated Engineering is now developing a 24-hectare lot located at Anuling, Patikul, Sulu, for the project.
The site, which is within walking distance from the police headquarters at Camp Asturias, is designed to accommodate rank and file policemen who do not have their own homes.
