		PATNA, a city, district, and division of British India, in the Behar province of Bengal.
		The greater part of the ancient city still lies buried in the silt of the rivers under Patna and Bankipur at a depth of from to 20 ft. The two events in the modern history of the district are the massacre of Patna (1763) and the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857.
		It comprised the seven districts of Patna, Gaya, Shahabad, Saran, Champaran, Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga.

	EC orders fresh polling in Patna
		After four days of consultations with the Bihar chief electoral officer and returning officers in the state, the Commission declared the February 16 polls in Patna "null and void" and ordered fresh polls be held with the date to be decided later.
		The Commission's Secretary K J Rao held an enquiry in Patna where he heard the views of all the contesting candidates, police officers and electoral officers in the state.
