 Patrician II - Ferrago
So that’s what you do in Patrician II; the bulk of the gameplay surrounds the intricacies of trade micromanagement, but Ascalon being the perfectionists they are, have also included elements of town management and building, as well as naval combat – which reminds me a little of Sid Meier’s ‘Pirates!’.
Which, by the way, are very well-designed, especially given the level of automation that is possible, and indeed essential, later in the game as your monopoly grows and you can’t concentrate as specifically on certain areas of the game (which you annoyingly can’t pause during trade-screen browsing).
All in all, though, despite a few niggling faults, a couple of missed opportunities, and some lacklustre presentation, Patrician II is a pretty good game; especially for those who relish the detail of the trading simulation.

GameSpy.com - Reviews: Patrician II (PC)
Patrician II is such a game that really manages to bridge the gap, and although it does start slow and can be a bit confusing at first, it can also become a highly addictive trading simulation that could keep you up in the wee hours of the night.
What makes this title -- a sequel of the original Patrician, a game that never managed to arrive on American shores -- potentially of interest is that it does focus on the usually overlooked trading powers in the north while essentially ignoring the more prominent merchants in Venice and Florence.
At its heart Patrician II revolves around 20 basic commodities that your citizens require, from raw materials like iron ore, timber, and wool to foodstuffs like grain and fish, and even finished products like beer and cloth.
