Ewing went to at least the second round of the playoffs for nine years in a row including the conference finals three times (plus one year where he was injured a portion of the playoffs).
Ewing was hurt both by the suggestions that his game was falling off and by the fact that the Knicks would not re-sign him after all he done for the team so he demanded a trade and the Knicks complied.
Ewing backers have always trumpeted the fact Ewing was never provided with the great teammates that Jordan, Isaiah Thomas, or Larry Bird had and that lack of support prevented him from succeeding in his quest for a title.

Last year Patrick suffered a career threatening injury to his shooting wrist and he missed just about the whole 97-98 season.
Ewing braced himself with his right hand and hit the floor hard, so hard that he ripped the ligaments that hold his wrist bones together and the lunate(a wrist bone) was dislocated; remember that this is his shooting hand ya'll.
Nothing good really came of this, but at least we really saw what kinda players the Knicks had without Ewing, a pretty good team; they beat their arch rivels the Miami Heat in the 1st round of the playoffs without the "The Franchise".
