Lane, Patrick   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Lane, Patrick, poet (b at Nelson, BC 26 Mar 1939).
Lane began publishing himself and others in the 1960s when still leading a nomadic knockabout life in northern BC logging camps, small towns and mines, and his poetry has remained true to the ideals of brutal honesty and self-reliance.
Lane's poetry at its most characteristic deals straightforwardly, yet with lush descriptive imagery, with man's rough treatment of his environment and of his fellow human beings.

W hat the Stones Remember, by the Canadian poet Patrick Lane, is at the same time a meditation and a lament.
Expertly woven into the miniaturist's vision of the natural world is his search through a past that includes the murder of his father, the premature death of a brother, family mayhem, his own divorces, turbulent relationships with his children and an agonizing desire for belonging that was denied him in childhood.
Lane's commitment to his art and his love of language have been, in part, his escape and his salvation.

Patrick Lane is a distinguished member of the second grouping of poets.

On the evidence of his latest book, it is essential for Patrick Lane to do two things: he must find an editor capable of prompting him to go in new directions, but more importantly, Lane must forsake everything he knows so that a new voice can emerge.

Celebrated Canadian poet Patrick Lane has laid down the story of his life, a tale that weaves throughout his hard years but always returns to his love for his garden—his salvation during his recovery from lifelong alcoholism and drug addiction.
Patrick is, I think, a relatively private person, despite his booming voice, quick rasping chuckles and the penchant for profanity and dirty stories, but this memoir is singular in its ability to give the reader the feeling that they really know him.
Patrick lived in poverty in northern British Columbia most of his young life, and in adulthood suffered the tragedy of his brother’s death and his father’s murder, as well as two unhappy marriages.

The Polyzoses had purchased the parcel at 1109 Patrick Lane in order to adjust the boundary line between the two lots, thereby increasing the water frontage and the area of the rear yard of their residence.
When so viewed, the evidence clearly establishes that Cotrupi understood that he was being retained as a realtor to list and market only that portion of "1109 Patrick Lane" that remained after the boundary line had been adjusted by the Polyzoses to enlarge their adjoining lot.
The property to be sold was still correctly known as 1109 Patrick Lane and as lot number seven in Riverview Estates because the Polyzoses had not recorded the plat showing the boundary line adjustment in the city's land records.
