		An armed patrol boat capable of detaining 30 illegal fishermen for up to a month will begin patrolling Australia's fishing zone early next year.
		Critics of the initiative labelled the boat a high-seas detention centre and likened it to a prison hulk when the government called tenders for the vessel in July.
		Suspected illegal fishermen detained on the boat would only be held on board for as long as it took to transfer them to shore, a spokesman said, adding that there was capacity to hold 30 detainees.
