An outstanding talent at University, Patty Fendick twice won the NCAA title, was ITA player of the year in 1987 and enjoyed a 57 match winning streak on the Stanford tennis team.
After beating Czech star Jana Novotna at the Australian Opne in the early 90's, her opening quote at her press conference was 'Why do kamikazes wear helmets?' Down 6-1, she had decided to throw caution to the wind and won the match against all the odds.
Known for her trademark baseball cap and rapier wit as much as her energetic all court style, Patty Fendick-McCain had her first daughter in 2001 and is now coach of the Washington women's team.

WOMEN'S TENNIS- Patty Fendick's former room/academy/doubles-mate is now her assistant coach.
Fendick and Hetherington were roommates at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy - also located in Florida - during their junior and senior years in high school.
Fendick and Hetherington competed as doubles partners on the pro tour for six years and reached the finals of the 1989 Virginia Slims Championships by beating Steffi Graff and Gabriela Sabatini.

On February 17th, Laura led her team to the USTA/ITA Indoors final as she broke yet another record -- the Stanford sophomore passed Patty Fendick's 57th match winning streak.
Fendick, now Patty Fendick-McCain and coach of the Washington women's team, was on hand as Granville won her 58th straight match.
Though she lost her match (to Aarthi Venkatesan of Georgia, 7-5,6-2) the following day, her team went on to win the event.

MADISON, Wisc. -- Stanford sophomore Laura Granville set an NCAA record with her 58th straight match win Saturday at the USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships at the University of Wisconsin's A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
Granville beat Vanderbilt's Julie Ditty 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to break the old record, set by Stanford's Patty Fendick-McCain, who won an NCAA-record 57 consecutive matches en route to winning back to back NCAA titles in 1986-87.
Granville hasn't lost since Jan. 14, 2000 (to UCLA's Amanda Basica), and has lost only two sets in 23 matches this season.
