  Patty McCormack at Hollywood.com
Since outgrowing her youthful parts, Patricia McCormack (as she is now billed) has had a sporadic adult career, but each year a new generation comes to know her 10-year old self as "The Bad Seed".
McCormack returned to primetime as the friend of social climber Helen Roper (Audra Lindley) on the ABC sitcom "The Ropers" (1979-80) and had a recurring role on "Dallas" (CBS, 1981-82).
McCormack made her TV-movie debut in 1983 with "Night Partners" (CBS) and co-starred as Paul LeMat's wife in the NBC miniseries "On Wings of Eagles" (1986).

McCormack has continued to act, notably in such other cult-ish fare as Maryjane, The Mini-Skirt Mob and William Castle's Bug, as well as two films in which McCormack was cast as an evil parent, Mommy and Mommy 2: Mommy's Day.

Mother Chritsine (Nancy Kelly) begins to suspect that something is wrong with her young daughter, Rhoda (Patty McCormack), when a boy is found drowned in a school picnic.
McCormack’s career demonstrates the curse of typecasting, specifically, what do you do when you’ve been nominated for an Oscar at the age of 11 for playing a killer kid.
In her ensuing lackluster career, McCormack went on to play other troubled characters, in "Miniskirt Mob" (1968) and in "Mommy" (1995), as “Bad Seed” smothering mother who kills to protect her daughter.

McCormack nailed the role so perfectly, I don't believe there is a young actress even today that could fill her shoes.
In the commentary, McCormack mentions there are "crosses" throughout the movie and, with this transfer, they are hard to miss.
Writer Charles Busch acts as a moderator of sorts as he asks McCormack quite a few questions about the filming of Seed and the stars she works with, but a lot of it is just reminiscing about the filming and not a lot is learned.

DVD Verdict Review - The Bad Seed
Starring Patty McCormack in her career-defining performance as Rhoda, the evil eight-year-old you love to hate, this overly-theatrical classic finally makes its long overdue on DVD debut courtesy of Warner Brothers.
Everyone who meets Rhoda (Patty McCormack, Mommy) thinks that she's the most adorable little girl in the world, but her mother Christine (Nancy Kelly, Double Exposure) isn't so sure, especially after Claude Daigle, Rhoda's rival for a penmanship award is found dead at a riverside picnic.
McCormack earned an Oscar nomination for her alternately lovable and viscous personalities, but the grandiose acting styles—emphasized even further by Mervyn LeRoy's close-ups-turn the film into an extreme exercise in heightened stage melodrama.

Nancy Kelly plays Christine Penmark, a rusty-voiced housewife who comes to the gradual discovery that her worries about her daughter Rhoda (Patty McCormack) go far beyond her notion that she's more automatronic than personable, or that her overly polished demeanor probably leads to derision from her school peers.
Considering that the film ends with a curtain call in which Kelly takes McCormack across her knee and winkingly spanks her (um, three murders deserves a little more than a spanking), there's a falseness about the entire enterprise that seems to go beyond mere staginess into some sort of human kabuki.
McCormack is über-colloquial and disturbingly suggests that creepy blonde child stars can grow up to be normal-sounding adults.

Patty McCormack stills sends shivers up and down viewers' spines with her portrayal of the innocent-looking grade school student Rhoda Penmark, who deliberately murders a classmate because he won the penmanship medal she coveted.
Nancy Kelly does well with the difficult role of the mother who gradually discovers that her precious baby is a killer, and William Hopper is equally good as the adoring father who fails to grasp the truth.
Patty McCormack is excellent as the cute but malevolent Rhoda, whose frilly dresses, devious politeness, and adorable blond pigtails mask her inner monstrousness.

McCormack's (and Odeon's?) preferences in music were already obvious at this stage, as 11 of the 60 recordings included here are of Irish songs; these appear at the end of the index arranged by composer, and give more than sufficient idea of his affinity for this music.
To judge from the evidence here, McCormack must not have been particularly comfortable singing in French at this time, as the arias from Carmen and Mignon are in Italian and English respectively (there's also a lovely 'Spirto gentil' in Italian, but La favorite was almost always performed in Italian at the time anyway).
Unlike both McCormack and Dawson, Stevens had an extensive operatic career; he sang a number of the big Wagnerian bass roles as well as others such as Falstaff, Mephistopheles, Prince Igor and Ramfis.

As embodied by eleven-year-old Patty McCormack, Rhoda was a character with no precedent in film history (so much so that the censors tried to keep her off the screen).
Her distinct presence coupled with the intensely emotional playing of the film's adult stars have made the film a cult favorite, with contemporary audiences see-sawing between laughter at the histrionics and stunned disbelief at Rhoda's evil ways.
He recorded a voiceover introducing the film's cast and, as had been the case when the play was performed, followed the bows by having Kelly take McCormack over her knee for a good spanking.

McCormack and Kelly would seem utterly ridiculous placed within a standard thriller, but the whole movie has a sort of heightened reality in which their overplayed emotions feel entirely appropriate.

Patty McCormack--so memorable as the evil, murderous little Rhoda Penmark in 1956's The Bad Seed, is outstanding in this unofficial "sequel" to that film.
McCormack's "Mommy" is psychotically obsessed with her 12-year-old daughter Jessica Ann — so much so that when she finds out Jessica didn't get the "Student of the Year" award again, she solves the problem by murdering the teacher who didn't recommend her for it.
She dismisses the killing as inconsequential ("a minor accident"), but the homicide detective assigned to the case suspects her immediately, and an insurance investigator who also suspects her tries to get close to Jessica Ann to find out what really happened.
