The pledge from Liberal Democrat health spokesman Paul Burstow is good news for managers who were warned last week by the NHS Confederation to brace themselves for a 'very rough month' on the hustings.
Strategic health authorities would be abolished, although many of their training and workforce functions would be retained, and primary care trusts would be slimmed down, with their commissioning functions hived off to local authorities.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is refusing to respond to Parliamentary questions, tabled in late October, which revealed that nearly 600 computers had disappeared from the department in the last five years, according to a Liberal Democrat MP.
