Winners are selected from the hundreds of email and paper ballots submitted by Cartoonists Northwest members and those individuals who receive the monthly publication of Penstuff.
This year’s Toonie Awards was held April 28, 2007 at the Rocksalt Restaurant on Lake Union, guest speaker Paul Chadwick graced the podium with highlights from his dazzling career as well as some poignant advice.
4 winners were chosen, at random, and each received a fine piece of original, Paul Chadwick artwork and an autographed book from his heralded Concrete series.

Paul Chadwick was an pulp writer, whose work appeared from the 1920's through the early 1950's.
Chadwick's detective Wade Hammond is even specially deputized by the Police Commissioner in his tales, and works closely with and is respected by the police, so his relationship with the police parallels those of the Van Dine school.
Chadwick is a very visual writer, and his stories often remind me of the B movie mysteries of the thirties.

Paul Chadwick was a pulp magazine author who wrote many stories under his own name and various pseudonyms.
As was the case with many prolific contributors to the pulps, he wrote in a number of different genres including detective stories, science fiction and westerns.
He wrote stories for the magazine Secret Agent X under the "house name" of Brant House, and also wrote the one and only issue of the Doc Savage clone Captain Hazzard (May 1938) under the name of Chester Hawks.
