Paul Gascoigne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paul John Gascoigne (born 27 May 1967 in Gateshead, England), often referred to by his nickname Gazza, is a former English football player, notable for his great footballing talent and colourful character.
Gascoigne was not booked for this, or an earlier horror tackle on Garry Parker, and even took his place in the wall for the subsequent free kick which was taken, and scored, by England teammate Stuart Pearce.
Gascoigne was appointed manager of the recently founded Portuguese team Algarve United in June 2005, but failed to settle at the club, and left to become manager of the Conference North team Kettering Town F.C. on 27 October 2005.

Gascoigne's impact had been such that when coupled with his good form in 1989/90, England manager Bobby Robson decided to include the brilliant young midfielder in his final squad of 22 for the 1990 World Cup finals in Italy.
In the Final at Wembley, Gascoigne seemed not to be able to control himself and it wasn't long before he made an awful tackle on Nottingham Forest's Garry Parker, thrusting his right boot way too high and into Parker's chest.

Should Gascoigne arrive in the States, the chances are probably far greater that he will create disaster than make any meaningful contribution to the struggling D.C. team, once the pride of MLS, but now fallen on hard times.
Gascoigne's club career started at Newcastle United (1984-88) and Tottenham Hotspur (1988-92) in England's Premier League before moving to Italy's Serie A with SS Lazio (1992-95) and Scotland's top division with Glasgow Rangers (1995-98).

It was seen by many as a mistake; Gascoigne was still having problems with the demon alcohol and was becoming increasingly injury prone during his time at The Riverside.
Indeed, a persistent thigh injury followed by surgery on a hernia kept Gascoigne sidelined for a good deal of his first season with the Blues at a time when his inspiration was badly needed.
However, he was rarely able to provide the inspiration needed to inspire the team to victory; the Blues were crying out for more performances like his virtuoso display against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup 4th Round in January 2002 when he led Everton to a 4-1 victory.
