Paul Goggins (born 16 June 1953) is a British politician He is the Labour Member of Parliament for Wythenshawe and Sale East, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Northern Ireland Office.
Paul Goggins was born in Manchester and was educated locally at St Bede's College, before going on to study at the Roman Catholic seminary Ushaw College in Durham (1971-1973).
He was elected to the House of Commons at the 1997 General Election for the newly created Wythenshawe and Sale East seat vacated by the retirement of Alf Morris, the former veteran Labour MP for Wythenshawe.

The 'Out of the Darkness' photographic exhibition opened to the public on 8th March and celebrates 40 years of press photography in Northern Ireland.

Paul Goggins went on the Today programme on the day the religious hatred bill was passed in the Lords version not the government's version, to explain why the bill (particularly, in the government's version, with the language about 'recklessness', instead of the Lords') was necessary and a good idea.
Religion may be an important part of identity, but you'll notice Goggins didn't say it was the most important part of identity, much less the exclusive source of it.
What Goggins said would seem to imply that religion is the first thing that should be protected and given immunity, but in fact it's the last thing that should.
