Guldin in 1622 believed that any large body whose center of gravity is not at the center of the universe would, if unimpeded, tend towards the latter.
In the first volume of his work, Guldin determined the centers of gravity of plane and solid figures and countered attacks made against his earlier work by Niccolò Cabeo in his Philosophia magnetica of 1629 (a copy of which is in the Dibner Library).
Guldin's volume continues with his work on finding the surfaces and volumes of various solids of revolution, a direct follow-up to the work of Johannes Kepler in his Nova stereometria doliorum vinariorum of 1615 (also in the Dibner Library).

Although Paul Guldin also was the chief critic of Kepler in his use of infinitesimals because of a lack of rigor and mathematical foundation, he was quite devoted to Kepler's studies and well-being.

Pappus's centroid theorem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pappus's centroid theorem (also known as the Guldinus theorem, Pappus-Guldinus theorem or Pappu's theorem) is the name of two related theorems dealing with the surface areas and volumes of surfaces and solids of revolution.
The theorem is attributed to Pappus of Alexandria and Paul Guldin.
The first theorem states that the surface area A of a surface of revolution generated by rotating a plane curve C about an axis external to C and on the same plane is equal to the product of the arc length s of C and the distance d

 BookRags: Paul Guldin Biography
Guldin's theorem is also known as Pappus's theorem and it was originally written down by Pappus of Alexandria sometime in the fourth century.
Although Guldin had access to translations of the work of Pappus, and he regularly quoted from them, various historians have shown that they were incomplete and lacked Pappus's theorem.
Guldin ensured that Kepler had a telescope when Kepler was persecuted for religious reasons and Kepler includes a grateful acknowledgement to Guldin in The Dream which was published posthumously by Kepler's son.
