Inspiration from Harragon helps Team Sheens shine - League - Sport - smh.com.au
A poem read by former Newcastle captain Paul Harragon on the eve of yesterday's match was the inspiration behind the Wests Tigers' gutsy win over Brisbane at Aussie Stadium.
The poem was introduced to Harragon by former Knights boxing coach Wally Bentley, who died earlier this year, and the former Test prop, now a Channel Nine commentator, used it as his mantra throughout his playing career.
Prop John Skandalis said the theme of Harragon's talk, which featured the famous 1997 grand final in which the underdog Newcastle side fought back to topple Manly in the dying seconds, proved apt for yesterday's match, as the Tigers had to absorb a lot of early pressure from the powerful Broncos.
