Paul Emerson Carlyle Ince (born October 21, 1967 in Ilford, London) is a football player who won numerous honours with Manchester United and became the first fl player to captain the England team in a career that saw him play for five English clubs and Italian side, Internazionale.
Ince received criticism for not taking a penalty (the crucial missed kick from Gareth Southgate was England's sixth) and for spending the whole shoot out sitting down in the centre circle with Steve McManaman with their backs to goal.
Ince concentrated on club football thereafter in his role as club captain, playing three seasons making 106 apperances with 9 goals at Middlesbrough before he was given a free transfer in 2002 due to family reasons.

Ince as we all know started life at West Ham, promising youngster, and it was not long before a number of clubs were after him.
Ince left having not got Liverpool even close to winning the league and proving once again that he was a big name but not a big player, offering them only a pre season Pirelli Cup triumph.
Like I have said Ince has always been strong in the tackle, and no one can say he is not passionate about the game, but he is just not the player he tries to make out he is. He gave himself the nickname of The Guv'nor just to make himself sound better.

Ince has been playing well for Boro, since Terry Venables took over, but to give him an England recall wouldn’t be good for the long term of the country.
Paul Ince has played for England and many of the best teams in England through his career and the question I have to ask is "is he still good enough?" Paul is currently playing for Middlesborough who are struggling in the Premiership.
Paul Ince has played really well for boro since joining them from liverpool last summer, he has been consistent, and now with the departure of Gazze, it will be upto paul ince to dictate the midfield.

Although Ince wasn't sure he still had what it takes at the top level, the attraction of top-flight football for another year was too good to miss and so he signed a one year extension in July 2003.
