Godless Science -- Comments on article by Paul Kurtz
He is quite candid that the reasons are pragmatic and practical: "It is simply a question of the division of labor." Skeptical investigation of religious claims is a quite proper role for scientists, but, having had some success with a focus on paranormal and fringe science claims, CSICOP should stick closely to that subject.
In the final paragraph, Kurtz criticizes the notion of "methodological naturalism," calling it a "cop-out" as a replacement for scientific naturalism.
It is not clear whether Kurtz realizes how this particular "cop-out" is not just a politically motivated capitulation to religious (and creationist!) rhetoric, but can easily be shown to be an intellectually indefensible distortion based in a misunderstanding of how science works.
