Macklin was first appointed by Prime Minister Paul Martin as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada in February 2002.
Macklin was unanimously elected to the position of Chair of the Eastern Ontario Liberal Caucus.
Paul, Joan and their family continue to live on a portion of the original family farm.

Paul Macklin, who is now 30, was convicted of repeatedly aiming a handgun at two Grampian Police officers as they chased him through a series of streets in the city.
Macklin first hit the headlines nine years ago when he and Robert Cadiz, another former public schoolboy from Aberdeen, were jailed for a total of 17 years after being convicted of conspiring to stage a £300,000 armed robbery in the city.
Following the 1994 trial, Macklin was also convicted of threatening to shoot four police officers, one of them a woman police constable, with a sawn-off shotgun and of hijacking a car at gunpoint.

Macklin was discussing the purpose behind Bill C36, the so-called anti-terrorism legislation passed by the House of Commons last week.
Macklin said Members of Parliament had to start with the principle that terrorism has been taken to a level where no rules apply, and that counter measures would demand the means to identify who the enemy is, and "arrest him before the act of terrorism comes to completion."
Macklin acknowledges that some police officers overreacted at last summer's Free Trade of the Americas conference in Quebec City, as did their counterparts in Ottawa during the G7 meeting a few weeks ago.

Thanks Paul, however it is strange why there are lots of free pdf libs in Java, but there isn't any in C++.
Well, perhaps I'll have to code in Java, since even Adobe's pdf-dev facility is just an ActiveX control for only viewing and data extraction, for everything else one should buy their SDK.
Well, thank you very much, I'll tell my opinion if you are interested in and if I'll use it, but as its API reference documentation shows - looks a bit ugly and have complicated design, perhaps not usual for me coz it's passed a long time when I was using pure C API.
