Both Osborn and Foote have a particular gift for capturing the dreams, big and small, that fire ordinary lives, and the pathos, humor and quiet tenacity by which those ordinary lives are made, each in their own way, extraordinary.
But Osborn and Foote share something else in common as well: both straddled two worlds as artists; both became successful screenwriters as well as playwrights.
In Lilly Golden's "Ode to a Small Town," the joys and challenges of country living are beautifully illuminated by a former city dweller, and we've juxtaposed it with the unforgettable closing pages of Richard Ford's award-winning novel The Sportswriter.

Morning's At Seven at the Colony Theatre: Review
Originally produced in New York in 1939, Paul Osborn’s comedy Morning’s at Seven was anything but a hit.
Perhaps the sweetly funny, gentle little saga of these four sisters and their quirky family, taking place in two rural 1922 backyards reeking of sappy Americana, was too close to home for theatregoers in 1939.
But Osborn truly had the pulse of early American values and, by 1980, obviously America was ready to embrace — and even finally cherish — its simpler times and sensibilities.

As expected, the Lincoln Center Theater revival of Paul Osborn's bittersweet and evergreen comedy, Morning's at Seven, is attracting some of the theatre's most seasoned actors.
The 1939 play — as well as Osborn himself — was nearly forgotten by 1978, when director Vivian Matalon staged the work at the Academy Festival Theatre in Lake Forest, IL.
Following the 1980 success, producers and theatre companies raided the neglected oeuvre of Paul Osborn, hoping to find another lost treasure, but nothing matched the performance of Seven.

Mornings At Seven, a CurtainUp review
The revival of Mornings at Seven, Paul Osborn's 1939 family comedy dishes up a triple dose of nostalgic pleasures.
The additional pleasure of re-visiting a bygone era brings the realization that though the life style depicted may be gone, the fears and despair that accompany aging and the binding ties of family connections are timeless.
Fortunately, director Daniel Sullivan has opted to stage Osborn's gentle story of four sisters whose lives in a small mid-western town are inextricably intertwined without any attempts to add contemporary stylistic twists.
