The Comics Jam War contest took place on April 1st, when over 100 teams of cartoonists across the nation were faced with trying to create an eight page comics story in 12 hours.
Smith, known for works ranging from his classic run on X-Men to his own co-creation Leave it to Chance and his current run on She-Hulk, was an ideal choice to provide this image.
“Paul is capable of a range of styles, and what he drew depicted a realistic person but with some very simple indicators,” explained Comics Jam War organizer Nat Gertler.

Running twelve issues before going on indefinite hiatus, Robinson and Smith managed to create a character that could truly be called all-ages, appealing to young and old alike.
Smith's art has a very classical, rounded look to it; with the characters's small round eyes, it certainly brings to mind the old-time Little Orphan Annie strip.
Smith is no stranger to good storytelling, more than ready to use extra panels per page if it means making the action flow smoothly.

UGO's This Week In Comics: Reviews for September 27, 2006
At some point down the line, some comic historian is going to note that this issue marks the first time that Man-Wolf and the Living Tribunal have appeared in the same comic.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, She-Hulk's new boss has just murdered her law firm's resident comic nerd because he figured out who he was, and John Jameson is dealing with the fact that he's gone from being Man-Wolf to Star-God, which I'm secretly hoping will be the plot of the third Spider-Man flick.
This comic is clearly for the fan who loves really big "for the fate of the universe" fights, and in that regard it delivers.

The comics community again celebrates it's own holiday this April 23rd with the annual return of 24 Hour Comics Day, a day to not only celebrate but to engage in the creation of comics.
Comics fans and the just plain curious will be able to walk in at any time during the 24 hours and see creation actually taking place.
This $11.95 paperback collects nine of the best 24 hour comics, showing how energetic, passionate, graceful, and both conceptually and visually uncensored people can be when working on little sleep and intense deadlines.

Homage Comics is Image Comic's line of independent creator owned comics, and everything I've seen them publish has been quite unlike the standard Image and Wildstorm comics.
Leave it to Chance chronicles the adventures of Chance Falconer, the teenaged daughter of Lucas Falconer, occult investigator, battler of demons and protector of the city of Devil's Echo.
This isn't too surprising as Paul Smith created both of them, and they are both variations of the dragon and is girl companion that he created years ago, before entering the comics world.

One of the best trends I see in comics over the last few years is a more varied and stronger portrayal of women in comics.
In fact, it seems from what Robinson and Smith have written that it is in some ways a conscious effort to buck those trends, and for this as well as for its originality, and the quality of both the writing and the art, I recommend it highly.
The title character of Ghost was murdered shortly before the start of the story, and her main motivation ever since has been to solve the mystery of her death and prior life.

Plenty of established commercial comics creators have taken the challenge, and now some of the best of those stories are being collected in 24 Hour Comics All-Stars, a new anthology from About Comics.
The mighty Paul Smith of Leave It To Chance and X-Men fame took an unusual approach to the challenge, producing a twenty-four-page anthology of short stories rather than one longer one.
Just as Smith and Rodriguez usually don’t write their own work, Sean McKeever is known strictly as a writer for comics such as Mary Jane and Mystique.

While he busy redefining comics in the '80s, Alan Moore paused to do this all-too-short Batman tale that forever stood the character on end.
Perhaps the best story in comics ever, Watchmen originally began as Moore's pitch to explore the Charlton characters (Blue Beetle, The Question, etc.) that DC Comics had recently acquired at the time.
Rather than rest on that, he decided to raise the bar for the entire comics industry, dramatically rebuild an icon, and pave the way for a veritable explosion in fandom.

 24 Hour Comics All-Stars
Creating a 24 hour comic – drawing a complete 24 page comic book in 24 straight hours – is a great learning experience, and not just for those who are new to comics.
Folks who enjoyed Paul’s one four-page tale that was included in 24 Hour Comics Day Highlights 2004 will now have the chance to read the full results of his work.
However, his 24 hour comic “Me and My Monkey: The Seven Pillows of Fate” can teach us all a valuable lesson about how to repel evil mime-bots, and so it is included in the book.

No, it’s a 288 hour comic - once a month for a year, he plans to spend 24 hours drawing 24 pages of it.
We’re running into a small problem here at 24 Hour Comics Day Central; many of you managed to download the 2005 submission form instead of the 2006 one (which can be identified because it has the number 2006 big in the logo), and there had been some changes in the submission-for-consideration.
