Paul Spiegel (December 31, 1937 in Warendorf, Germany - April 30, 2006 in Düsseldorf, Germany) was leader of the Zentralrat der Juden in Germany and the main spokesman of the German Jews.
Paul Spiegel was born into a Westphalian family of cattle dealers, originating from the small town Versmold.
Paul Spiegel died in the morning hours of April 30, 2006, in Düsseldorf, following a heart attack which he had suffered on February 3, along with a pulmonary inflammation—as a result of which his doctors had put him into an artificial coma in the hospital.

Paul Spiegel started his journalistic career with the weekly Allegemeine Juedische Wochenzeitung in the 1950s becoming an editor in 1958 until 1965, when he became assistant to the secretary-general of the Central Council of Jews in Western Germany.
Paul Spiegel received numerous awards, including the Order of Merit of the State of Nordrhine-Westphalia in 1993, the Federal Order of Merit 1st Class in 1997, the Heinrich-Albertz peace prize in 2001, and Doctor honoris causa of the Heinrich-Heine University of Duesseldorf, in 2004.
