Szabo fights against anti-family tax policies - Interim, September 1998
MP Paul Szabo (Mississagua South), is the chairperson of a Liberal caucus committee exploring ways to address the issue of unpaid work in the home.
In 1996, Szabo introduced a private member's motion that said the "Income Tax Act discriminates against families that provide care in the home to preschool children, the chronically ill, the disabled and the aged." Even though it passed, as a motion it did not require action on the part of the government.
Szabo cited statistics indicating that only a minority of preschool children are cared for by a parent at home full-time.

Money Pushes Embryonic Stem Cell Insistence
MP Paul Szabo, the resident expert on the matter in the Canadian House of Commons posited an answer in the debate on the Assisted Human Reproduction Act, Bill C-13 Monday.
Szabo was outraged that researchers, with a pecuniary interest in embryonic stem cell research, would be allowed to sit on the board of the agency created to oversee such research.
Szabo points out that the agency would have the authority to issue a licence to authorize the use of human embryos for the purpose of research only if it is satisfied that the use is 'necessary' for the purpose of the proposed research.

LifeSite Special Report - Pro-Life Liberal MP Paul Szabo Defeats Nomination Challenge
By the end of the evening Szabo defeated the overconfident Charles Sousa and his organizers by what was a reasonably healthy margin, given the circumstances, of 966 to 838.
Szabo, being the incumbent and a long-time Liberal Party activist, was able to rely on a more committed voter base that showed up and cast their ballots.
Szabo has recently been one of the most outspoken Liberal MPs on life and family issues and led the challenge within the Liberals to defeat or at least substantially amend the government’s deeply flawed stem Bill C-6, previously numbered C-13.

Paul Szabo, the Liberal Member of parliament for Mississauga South and chairman of the Bill C-7 sub-committee, gave a speech in support of Bill C-7 in which he justified his subcommittee's work on the Bill using a combination of misdirection, half-truths, and outright lies.
Paul Szabo began his speech by describing the one potentially positive thing that came out of the Bill C-7 subcommittee, their supplementary recommendations to the Standing Committee on Health.
Paul Szabo concluded his explanation of Bill C-7 with a series of statements that should be enough to put aside any false impressions that Bill C-7 is in some way a progressive piece of legislation.

Cannabis Canada, spring96 - Clause 3: The True Face of Prohibition   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Paul Szabo claimed that Clause 3 was necessary because "the rapid changes in the technology of drug production makes it necessary for us to respond quickly to new drugs." He claimed that the thirty day wait necessary to add a drug to the schedule by ordinary means was simply too long.
Clause 3, Paul Szabo explained that it was not withdrawn because of what he considered an unfounded misconception, but rather because of concern about "the violation of a fundamental legal principle," which is that you cannot ban something without naming precisely what it is you're banning.
However, Paul Szabo seemed to consider this fundamental legal principle a nuisance, and hinted at the end of his speech that Clause 3 could make a comeback in future legislation.

Catholic Insight : Abortion : Paul Martin’s betrayal
Paul Martin has to be one of the most pitiable prime ministers in Canadian history.
If Martin believes, as Catholics must, that abortion is a crime that can never be justified, then he has a duty as a legislator and as a rational person also to affirm that a woman manifestly does not have the right to choose death for her baby by procuring an abortion.
In sorry contrast, Paul Martin has repudiated the laws of God and betrayed the Catholic Church for the purpose of gaining political power and worldly fame.
