Paul Carrack (born April 22, 1951 in Sheffield, England) is an English keyboardist, singer and songwriter.
This was followed by a turn as a member of Roxy Music, playing keyboards on their 1979 reunion album Manifesto.
In 2004, the band was officially re-named Mike + The Mechanics and Paul Carrack.

Thompson has also had productive associations with one or both instruments with the Canadian guitarists Ed BICKERT and Sonny GREENWICH, the US guitarist Jim Hall (1976-90) and the British pianist George Shearing (1982-87).
Thompson's discography includes 11 albums under his own name from 1969 to 1996 and many others as sideman to Greenwich, Hall, Shearing, Jim GALLOWAY, Paul Desmond, Jay McShann, etc. The LP Ed Bickert/Don Thompson won a Juno award in 1980, as did Thompson's own A Beautiful Friendship in 1985.
Thompson has also played an important role as a teacher - privately, at colleges and universities in the Toronto area and at the Banff Centre for the Arts Jazz Workshop.

Thompson worked as a session drummer for various artists; his post-Roxy session work included such diverse acts as a punk band The Angelic Upstarts on their 1983 album Reason Why and blues-rocker Gary Moore on his Emerald Aisles Live In Ireland tour in 1985, which was released on video.
Ferry, Manzanera, Mackay, and Thompson reformed in 2001 and toured extensively for a couple of years.

Paul, sponsored by Fox Bassoons, performed as a soloist at the 1995 International Double Reed Festival in Rotterdam, Holland, where Hanson's compositions and performance received great acclaim from many of the world's renown double reed artists.
Paul also appeared at the 1996 and 1999 IDRS festivals as a performer and as a clinician.
Paul was also music director and primary performer for a three part academic jazz series at several California Universities with the Paul Hanson Ensemble; this ensemble has performed in 1997 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

I had a lot of the musicians in place from my solo tours that I've been doing for the last three years.
It's been great having a well-trained band who are well-versed in that material, and it's simply a case of accommodating Andy Mackay and Phil Manzanera, who are the two "star soloists" in Roxy Music.
Both of the solo tours I've been doing, and Roxy Music as well, we have Paul Thompson in place, who's the original drummer from the band, as well, so we have most of the people in place.

Paul didnt go to jail for drugs abuse all he got was a warning, I can also safely say that Mick and James HAVE NOT gone to jail recently or in the past for murder (although Mick has confessed he has an obsession with serial murderers), and yes they are a drug free band.
