  Paul Weller Biography
Paul Weller was strangely overlooked by the UK press, who at this stage seemed resistant to the artist's revival, despite the presence of fine songs in "Clues" and "Strange Museum".
Weller's renaissance was confirmed in 1993 with the release of "Sunflower", a breezy, Traffic-inspired folk rock enterprise, and Wild Wood, arguably the finest collection of songs Weller had written since the Jam's All Mod Cons.
Weller's fans were forced to wait another three years for the follow-up, Heliocentric, and although much was promised, the album lacked the punch and sparkle of previous efforts.

Paul Weller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paul Weller (born John William Weller on 25 May 1958, in Stanley Road, Woking, Surrey) is an English singer-songwriter.
Weller was the leader and protagonist behind the formation of two successful bands, The Jam and The Style Council.
Weller was strongly influenced by 1960s bands such as The Kinks, The Small Faces and The Who, all three great favourites of his and whose influence can be heard in much of The Jam's material.

As the leader of the Jam, Paul Weller fronted the most popular British band of the punk era, influencing legions of English rockers that ranged from his mod-revival contemporaries to the Smiths in the '80s and Oasis in the '90s.
Weller's solo records were more organic and rootsier than the Style Council, which helped him regain his popularity within Britain.
Recorded with producer Brendan Lynch, Paul Weller was a joyous, soulful return to form that was recorded with several members of the Young Disciples, former Blow Monkey Dr.

 The Jam and Paul Weller
Frontman Paul Weller was vocally and instrumentally limited, and his work was often derivative, with his musical approach being modelled closely not on just punk and New Wave contemporaries, but on 60s Mod and acid rock acts like the Beatles, the Kinks, and the Who (not to mention his strong interest in jazz and Motown).
Weller can't always get his material to gel - the opening title track is a tantalizing fragment - but his sense of dynamics and melody is consistently striking ("To Be Someone (Didn't We Have A Nice Time?)"), and the rhythm section is taut and energizing ("The Place I Love").
Weller's surefire songwriting and precise Townshend-style power chords carry all the key tracks: his glorious youth gang anthem "Thick As Thieves," his incredibly bleak "Burning Sky," which takes the form of a rambling personal letter, and his memorable rocker "Eton Rifles" (a commercial breakthrough single, pushing them to #3 on the charts).

 Splendid E-zine reviews: Paul Weller
Style Council's were generally best when Weller wasn't trying to capture the mood of contentment and peace; that band's noble ambitions seldom seemed to be in tune with Paul's greatest strengths, as his voice definitely reaches a peak when it's at its most energetic and impassioned.
While it may leave you doubting whether Weller's potential still exceeds his songs, you'll be impressed by the amount of sheer talent he has on display.
I can't hear any Paul Weller, even during his house music moments, without concluding that his is a muse which will always matter.

 Paul Weller
Weller has barely even spoken to his former bandmates since then, and you can rest assured there will be snowball fights in hell whenever a Jam reunion of any imaginable sort takes place.
Weller had the balls to explore any and every musical direction that happened to strike his fancy, including soul, jazz, funk, dance, Euro-pop, and even rap (and that was back in 1983, when old-school rap was just getting started).
True, Weller ventured into pretentious self-indulgence on many a TSC outing, but the foppish fancy lad and his cohorts produced a lot of great music, which is most evident when you listen to the singles collections instead of the largely uneven albums.

Far too tanned to be taken seriously as a pasty faced mod these days, I'm a bit worried that he might have lost his cockney edge, but from the first few bars of 'from the floorboards up', I'm relieved that he's still as 'Laahdan' as ever in his delivery.
More vibrant, vivacious and raw live, than his albums give him credit for, he really comes into his own during live performances like this, where the pent up energy can be released in a kick, head shake and even a suggestive bite of the lip.
The distorted guitar intro to 'Porcelain Gods' has Paul's medallion (not as big as the Hoff's) glinting to the audience under the stage lights, as he struts purposefully between the members of the band.
