Paul Weston (born Paul Weststein, March 12, 1912, Springfield, MA) was one of the most diverse and talented arrangers and conductors of the '40s and '50s, moving from mainstream swing and jazz to instrumental easy listening pop in the course of his career.
Weston became the A&R director for Capitol Records in 1944, when the label was just beginning.
Though he continued to write fast swing charts for a time, Weston noticed that the tastes of the public were beginning to move toward gentler material, so he adjusted his music accordingly.

As a publicity stunt, Stafford and Weston claimed that the Edwardses were a New Jersey lounge act that they had discovered, and denied any personal connection; much time would pass before people realized (and Stafford and Weston admitted) that they were in fact the Edwardses.
In 1977, she and Paul Weston recorded a one-off cover of The Beegees "Stayin' Alive." Stafford wouldn't perform again until 1990, at a ceremony honoring Frank Sinatra.
With Paul Weston's help, she compiled a pair of "Best of Jonathan and Darlene" albums, which were released in 1993.

Weston attended Darmouth College, earning a Phi Beta Kappa key, and joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra as an arranger during the height of its success.
Weston married Stafford in 1948 and backed her on some of her biggest hits, including "Shrimp Boats" and "Day by Day," which he also composed.
Weston and Stafford went on to record four other Jonathan and Darlene albums, all of which are available on Corinthian Records, their private label.

It was with Dorsey that Weston would meet his future wife, singer Jo Stafford, who was at that time a member of the vocal group the Pied Pipers.
Weston left Dorsey in 1940 to freelance as a conductor and arranger, working with such artists as Dinah Shore and Bob Crosby.

Weston was a founder and first national president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), and received a Grammy Award for his JONATHAN AND DARLENE IN PARIS album, a comedy album recorded with his wife; Jo Stafford.
Jo Stafford and Paul Weston were married in 1952, and their two children; Tim and Amy are currently pursuing careers in contemporary music.
