Prentiss was one of the best American comediennes of the 1960s, becoming a leading lady in a number of screwball comedies, as well as some dramatic roles.
Discovered by a talent scout at Northwestern University in 1958, she signed with Metro Goldwyn Mayer, leading to a series of comedies with Jim Hutton.
Empire magazine picked her as one of the "100 Sexiest Stars in film history." Her sister Ann Prentiss is also well-known in the film industry, as is her husband (and fellow NU alum) Richard Benjamin.

Paula Prentiss and Richard Benjamin were brilliant in that show, as were the writers and everyone else connected with it.
Dick and Paula were talking about the possibility of his dying and her marrying again (not an uncommon sitcom notion.) At first Paula says she will never remarry, but Dick says she should go on with her life.
This stumps Paula at first then she remembers that Harry the fireman (played by the great Kenneth Mars, another neglected character actor) who worked in the firehouse across the airshaft from them and used to visit them by putting a wooden plank between their two windows is single.

Texas native Paula Prentiss was the daughter of an Italian-born oil company labor relations man. Her reputation as a cut-up at Virginia's Randolph Macon School would haunt her in "I knew her when" magazine articles for the rest of her life.
In 1967, Prentiss co-starred with husband Dick Benjamin in He and She, a TV sitcom which, despite low ratings, accrued a loyal cult following.
Paula Prentiss is the older sister of actress Ann Prentiss.

We see nothing of Prentiss' performance, indeed we cut to her leaving the stage with O'Toole, wearing a different dress with a coat tossed over her shoulders.
Paula Prentiss was a favorite actress of the time, always winning and hilarious, even in some of the worst roles MGM could give her.

The standout is Paula Prentiss who portrays Tuggle with her unique personality in full bloom and partnered the first of several times with Jim Hutton as the comically obnoxious TV.
Prentiss offers her services and remembrances to the alternate audio commentary track on the DVD, which also comes with a looking-back featurette which includes interviews with Prentiss and Francis.
Prentiss and Hutton probably come off best with their comic rapport but Hart anchors the film well as it's moral center.

Extras Review: In her commentary track, Paula Prentiss expresses her fondness for this, her first movie—she was just out of Northwestern, and never made it to spring break as a college student, but did on the studio's dime.
She does provide a couple of terrific biographical details, though—Dolores Hart left Hollywood, and Prentiss recently visited her in her new profession: Hart is now a mother superior at a convent.
Prentiss is clearly enjoying herself watching the movie again, and she repeats herself more than once; basically, her commentary track boils down to her saying, "It was a cool movie, wasn't it?"

Pop phenom Connie Francis made her film debut as Angie, presented rather illogically as the ugly duckling of the group ("I knew I should never have played field hockey!" is her explanation for her lack of sex appeal) but even she finds love, with a freakish jazz musician who wears Coke-bottle glasses (Frank Gorshin).
A commentary track by Paula Prentiss is entertaining, with the actress discussing her early career and commenting acerbically on the film's portrayal of women.

Stepford Wives was a really good movie; I had no idea I would like it so much.The plot is really well adapted from the book let alone a great presentation of the standard quality that some expected from a wife or family.The acting really wasn't half bad and neither was the dialogue.
As the two women meet the other housewives who live in Stepford, they begin to notice that all of them are interested only in cooking, cleaning, and pleasing their husbands.
I was very impressed by most of the performances, most notably Paula Prentiss, who was absolutely magnetic.
