Paula was elected to the House of Assembly in February 1996.
Paula married Dale Rahmanovic in 1998 and in April 2000 created history by becoming the first female Tasmanian MP to have a child while in office with the birth of her son, Daniel.
Paula will be using this same enthusiasm and drive to ensure that the Tourism industry in Tasmania continues to strive to achieve the goals articulated in the joint industry/government partnership, Tourism21.

The comments were made after Ms Wriedt this week dropped her long-held opposition to the federal scheme which offers $700 worth of tuition to students who failed to reach national literacy benchmarks and agreed to advise parents of the scheme before the June 30 deadline.
Ms Wriedt said her department was still checking the results for accuracy and once finalised it was up to the Ministerial Council for Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs, and not individual states, to release them.

Ms Wriedt said some schools were forcing parents to organise their own care for children on these professional learning days for teachers, despite Education Department guidelines to the contrary, and this was "frustrating and not acceptable".
Ms Wriedt's annoyance was voiced after Liberal education spokesman Peter Gutwein revealed yesterday that at least three schools were forcing parents to pay for extra childcare.
Ms Wriedt said she had raised the issue with the Tasmanian Principals' Association and over the next few weeks her staff would go around and check what measures schools had in place for the a student-free day next month.

HOBART — Tasmanian education minister Paula Wriedt and federal education minister Brendan Nelson have publicly chastised secondary students planning to join the March 5 national student strike against the war on Iraq.
