Pavel Romanovich Popovich (cyrillic Павел Романович Попович), born October 5, 1930 in Uzin[?] was a Cosmonaut who commanded two space flights, Vostok 4 and Soyuz 14[?].
In 1960, he was selected as one of a group of twenty air force pilots that would train as the first cosmonauts.
He retired from the space programme in 1982.

The crew of the Soyuz-14 spacecraft was composed of veteran cosmonaut Pavel Popovich and a rookie, Yuri Artukhin; it was launched toward the OPS-2 on July 3, 1974.
According to the recollections of Pavel Popovich, the launch vehicle delivered the Soyuz spacecraft within only 600 meters from the station and from a distance of 100 meters the crew switched to manual control.
Popovich remembers taking off his spacesuit gloves, (unpressurizing his suit, as a result) in order to make it easier to control the craft.

A Salyut 5 crew member denies the existence of a cannon on that station, so perhaps the wisdom of outfitting a space station with a cannon was rethought, or maybe, the U.S. having had no manned spaceflight capability between 1975 and 1981, low Earth orbit was deemed insufficiently target-rich to justify such weaponry.

But that wasn't true for the Voskhod 2 team of Pavel Belyayev and Alexei Leonov, who made their day-long mission in March, 1965.

The reason for launching the cosmonauts simultaneously and putting them so close together, within 5 kilometers, was to monitor both cosmonauts simultaneously to see if they both had the same reactions to space flight.
Both during and after their flights neither Nikolayev nor Popovich exhibited any of the space sickness which had plagued Titov; the Soviets determined that this sickness may depend upon the individual rather then a direct result of long space flights.
