Pavol Hrusovsky brought up the one issue that was avoided by other Slovak politicians—human rights.
Hrusovsky also pointed out to the Chinese Premier that China has violated religious freedom and that their parliament has so far refused to ratify a policy on human rights and political rights.
Hrusovsky later told journalists that he thinks politicians have an obligation to point out these issues everywhere, whereever human rights are violated, as happened recently with regard to Byelorussia on the Slovak political scene.

These words, communicated by the Cuban Ambassador to Slovakia, Caridad Milian, in a letter to Slovak Speaker of Parliament Pavol Hrusovsky, have caused consternation in political and diplomatic circles.
According to Slovak experts on diplomatic protocol, such strong words violate diplomatic form and are an insult to one of the country's top officials.

Dzurinda was restating his position in a debate with leaders of two co-ruling parties, Pavol Hrusovsky of the Christian Democrat KDH and Pavol Rusko of liberal-leaning ANO, and the chairman of Smer opposition party Robert Fico.
The KDH is petitioning the Constitutional Court to strike down a statutory instrument that allows abortion of a genetically-impaired foetus until the 24th week of pregnancy, while ANO is intending to retable a bill, vetoed by the President in July, that would entrench the provision in statute.
Speaker of Parliament Hrusovsky called for wide public and professional discussion on the issue, and said that if the current legislation was unconstitutional then Parliament should vote on the matter.

According to constitutional lawyer Peter Kresak, KDH Chairman Hrusovsky would be in violation of the constitution if he refused to sign the amendment, TASR reported on 8 July.

The Party of the Hungarian Coalition (SMK), chaired by Bela Bugar, won 11.68% of the vote (also 20 seats), the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (LU-HZDS) led by Vladimir Meciar clearly regressed in comparison with the previous elections on 20th and 21st September 2002 (- 10.70 points) with 8.79% of the vote (15 seats).
Finally the Christian Democrat Movement (KDH), led by Pavol Hrusovsky, which aimed to win 10% of the vote, only achieved a score of 8.31% (14 seats) a result that its Vice President Daniel Lipsic qualified as a "failure".
Free Forum (SF), led by Zuzana Martinakova did not succeed in rising above the 5% mark necessary to be represented in Parliament.

The President Ivan Gasparovic has said that the margin for passing the bill in parliament would be higher than normal, at three-fifths - the same as is needed by Slovak law to change the country’s constitution.
