Paxton did not refer to the state court ruling that the challenge to the use of his 1965 conviction in sentencing was waived by counsel's failure to raise it on direct appeal.

Paxton House was built in two phases, the first part is a restrained Palladian Mansion by Adam between 1758 and 1762 and the second is a Regency extension built by Robert Reid.
The house was built as a romantic and optimistic gesture by Patrick, in the hope that his marriage to one of the daughters of Frederick the Great would see her installed here with him.
In the earlier parts of the house, such as the Reception Room and the Family Staircase, the white Rococo plasterwork provides a good contrast in styles and fashions to the later Adam's style in the extension.

Paxton House is located close to the English border, on the north bank of the River Tweed, some 4 miles (6 km) west of Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Miss Jean Home who was to inherit the house and the collection employed the Master of the King's Works for Scotland, architect Robert Reid (1776-1856), to add an East wing comprising a Library and Gallery.
The Gallery appears to be the only remaining room in a Scottish country house built specifically to house a collection of pictures.
The Paxton Trust in association with The National Galleries of Scotland have carefully restored the Gallery to its original colour scheme, and although Patrick Home's pictures are now dispersed, an important collection from the National Gallery has been hung in their place in the 19th century manner.
