Paya Lebar is an area in the central-eastern part of Singapore.
Paya Lebar was a large, swampy area close to the Kallang River, hence its name.
In 1955, the Paya Lebar International Airport was opened and became the area's chief landmark, along with a number of housing estates, schools and factories.

Paya Lebar Air Force Base (Chinese: 巴耶利峇机场) was built as a civilian airport, known as Singapore International Airport, in 1955, before being gradually converted into a military air force base from 1967.

The 122nd, 141st, 144th and 149th Squadrons are also housed at Paya Lebar AFB.

Mr Mohamed Ruslan Radin, an unmarried aircraft Service Engineer, aged 41 was in a hangar carrying out his routine task on an aircraft when a taxiing CH53 helicopter collided into a stationary CH53 which had its engine and rotor blade running.
Mr Mohamed Ruslan Radin was hit on his lower torso by flying debris from the collision.
He was immediately sent to the RSAF Medical Centre within the Paya Lebar Airbase, and shortly transferred to the Changi General Hospital.

According to friends whom have people in the airbase, Squadron 149 is away on detachment, so we’re most likely end up in 144SQN.
According to friends, 144SQN is a training squadron so chances of us being sent for detachment within the next two years is really bloody slim.

While there, I saw many cyclist cycle past, apparantly to Paya Lebar Airbase for Runaway Cycling 2004 too.
Siva and Airani turned up at 7.10am and we rode on to Bishan, taking Thomson Road to Marymount Lane to Bishan St, turning into Jln Pemimpin to Jln Binchang.
From Binchang to Bishan Road (where Jaswant Singh joined us), to Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 to Chuan to Boundary Road to Upper Paya Lebar Road to Airport Road then to PLAB.

Following the massive earthquake that struck South Asia on Saturday morning, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) have deployed an overseas rescue contingent (codenamed Operation Lion Heart) to Islamabad, Pakistan, to assist the local authorities in search and rescue efforts.
The contingent is scheduled to depart from Paya Lebar Airbase this afternoon at 5:00pm via two C-130 military transport aircrafts.
Led by MAJ Yap Kok Boon, the Commander of the 1st CD Division, the 44-man contingent will also comprise experienced officers from the elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART).
