		Payakumbuh certainly is a friendly, lovely and seemingly easy-going town with a real human dimension, but at the same time it is a busy, lively, thriving city.
		The importance and the growth of Payakumbuh nowadays, as it was in the past, is derived from its function as an important marketplace.
		Though nowadays Payakumbuh has the status of an urban municipality (kotamadya), independent of the surrounding district (kabupaten), the most prominent place in town at the aforementioned crossroads or T-junction is occupied by the offices of the district head.
