		Payette, originally a fur trapper with the North West Company, migrated east from Astoria, Oregon, and was the first white man in the area in 1818.
		As of the 2000 Census the Payette County had a population of 20,578 (2005 estimate: 22,197) [1].
		In the county the population was spread out with 30.60% under the age of 18, 7.90% from 18 to 24, 26.60% from 25 to 44, 21.70% from 45 to 64, and 13.20% who were 65 years of age or older.
