Peace River is a town in southwestern Alberta, Canada, on the Peace River, at its confluence with the Smoky and Heart Rivers.
It is located 486 km northwest of Edmonton, Alberta, and 2 km northeast of Grande Prairie, Alberta.
The original part of the town lies on a flood plain in the Peace River valley, while it has also expanded to areas on higher ground, mostly to the west of the town.

BC Hydro, which has a degree of control over the flow of the Peace River, was accused by owners, during the meeting last week, of causing the rise of water level through its exploitation of the dam that generates power for its grid.
Mahabir revealed that increases in the flow of the river have been artificially caused to remove the slush beneath the icy surface that is believed to block the flow of river water.
Alberta Environment representatives did not comment this at last week’s meeting, but their full report on this disaster will be awaited impatiently by the local residents.

The Peace River Centennial Museum and Archives was founded by the Sir Alexander Mackenzie Historical Society in 1967 as a centennial project.
Its regional mandate is Peace River and Northern Alberta and covers a broad area from Edmonton to the Northwest Territories, and Dawson Creek to Fort Chipewyan.
The main theme of the museum is that Peace River was, and still is, a central point of transit for all of the Peace Country, beginning with river transportation to air and highway transportation.

Peace River Crossing (as it was called then) drew one successful prospector back from the gold fields.
The name was permanently changed to "Peace River" in 1916 when some unknown official of the Post Office decided that a name with three words in it was too long to be convenient.
In that same year the railroad arrived in Peace River, bringing additional homesteaders and providing local farmers with a means of getting their product to the national and international markets.
