 Mill Valley Public Library - Mill Valley: Around the Town
Behind Mill Valley's City Hall, where native coast redwoods guard the line of demarcation between concrete and nature, where the unimposing creek with the long name, Arroyo Corte Madera del Presidio, gently passes by on its journey to Richardson Bay, is Mill Valley's smallest park.
Mill Valley's Edna Maguire School knows this, and when it reopened on Lomita Avenue as a K-5 school in 1990, school officials decided to keep the garden that was started by the businesses that previously occupied the buildings, and to include the care, and reap the benefits, of the garden as part of its curriculum.
The Mill Valley Public Library sponsored the Centennial Documentary Photo Contest, in which residents were challenged to submit three photographs portraying the Mill Valley of the new millennium, which coincides with the town's Centennial.

Until 1917, all ages of Peaceful Valley children climbed up the steep winding paths to attend school in the big, brick Washington School building which was located on the corner of First and Ash in Browne's Addition.
For the children from the Valley, a visit to one of the mansions was a memorable event.
An exception was the Peaceful Valley Grocery, owned and operated by the Numata family from 1922 until competition from the large supermarkets forced its closure in 1969.

The nearest to an authentication of the Potts story of Washington's prayer in the woods seems to be supplied by the "Diary and Remembrances" of the Rev. Nathaniel Randolph Snowden, an ordained Presbyterian minister, graduate of Princeton with a degree from Dickinson College.
Above all else at Valley Forge Washington held to his faith, and prayer was an essential of his belief — whether vocal in the wooded tract, silent in the stable stall, on bended knee at the bedside or in concert with associates at public service.
