Judging by the record they made, Harbour and bandmates had no qualms about cruising the new wave highway to heavy rotation.
The masses didn't care, either; by spring 1980, the band imploded, leaving Harbour to start over in London with a different cast of characters.

Pearl Harbor's historical lay-out and formula kind of reminded me of was how the mini-series `The Winds of War' was a set-up for `War and Remembrance' except they were two long and massive mini-series.

Pearl Harbor is all about bombs- bombs destroying battleships, bombs pummeling airfields, bombs tearing apart hospitals and schools and churches.
Yes, the effects are amazing, yes the battle over Pearl Harbor is fantastic, and yes the battle lasts for almost an hour and manages to bomb the living crapola out of everyone and their stepmother.
Sadly, there's over two more hours to this movie, and they are so dreadful to sit through that you begin tearing the flesh off of your eye-sockets to relieve the pain.

Salon.com Arts & Entertainment | "Pearl Harbor": Bombs away!
The heroism of "Pearl Harbor" is unsullied by anything as mundane as patriotism -- it's hard to figure out if Bay and screenwriter Randall Wallace ("Braveheart," "The Man in the Iron Mask") think flag-waving is uncool or in bad taste or both.
"Pearl Harbor" is all lovin' and kissin' and brave fighter pilots, when it's not screaming men being blasted from their ships.
Wallace's narrative uses the bombing of Pearl Harbor as a backdrop for the story of the deep and lasting friendship between Rafe (Ben Affleck) and Danny (Josh Hartnett), who have been buddies since they were little squirts.

A few years ago, I remember the prediction that one day there would be a movie released with such seamless integration between SFX and liveaction footage, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Pearl Harbour is as close to that mark as any movie has ever been, with simply spectacular shots of explosions, air wars, and firefights all mixed in with actors and stuntmen.

TrouserPress.com :: Pearl Harbor and the Explosions
Pearl Harbor and the Explosions came out of San Francisco's early new wave scene, but their lone album consists of bouncy little pop tunes suitable for FM radio: watered-down soul and funk overtones topped off by Pearl E. Gates' theatrical vocal posturings.
Harbour (dropping her Gates and adopting the British spelling) hit her stride as a solo artist on Don't Follow Me, I'm Lost Too, a headlong plunge into rockabilly and similarly ancient styles.
Harbour starts off by covering the Rocky Fellers' 1963 chestnut, "Killer Joe," and then launches into a program of girl-group soundalikes that quiver with melodic conviction and shake with appropriate, cliché-free backing.

Audio Ideas Guide DVD Movie Reviews: Pearl Harbour and Tora! Tora! Tora!
If packaging were everything, Pearl Harbour would win every award going, but the most elaborate fold-out collection of booklets, telegrams, postcards (shown), and 4 discs claiming 12 hours of extra goodies cannot disguise a bad, banal script, and stupid story surrounding the events of America's entry into World War II.
The movie, all THX spic and span, covers the first 2 of 4 discs, while 2 more have a pair of documentaries from the History Channel, one a historical look at the Doolittle Mission to Japan after Pearl Harbour that is much more factual and less sentimental than the depiction in the film.
In fact, the extras are more interesting and educational than the movie itself, the fate of the Doolittle raiders very sad, and the documentary about the trapped sailors in the Pearl Harbour ships very moving.
