Pearl River County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi.
In the county the population was spread out with 27.00% under the age of 18, 9.40% from 18 to 24, 27.10% from 25 to 44, 23.90% from 45 to 64, and 12.60% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county was $30,912, and the median income for a family was $35,924.

 Pearl River County - County History
Pearl River County was officially organized by an act of the Legislature in February, 1890, on lands taken from Marion and Hancock Counties.
As Pearl River County continued to grow and prosper, its citizens decided that the original county courthouse was inadequate, and in 1918, construction of the present courthouse was begun.
Ladner was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives from Pearl River County in 1936.

Pearl River County, an innovator in the educational field, led the state in consolidated schools and teachers' homes, and was, for four years, designated as a model county, receiving a large appropriation from the Rockefeller Foundation.
In 1891 the county was assessed at $1,119,373.50.
In 1927 the county's population was 18,000 and the population at Poplarville was 1,800.

 PRBDD - Pearl River Basin Development District
The implementation of the Pearl River Boatway was a cooperative effort between the District, member counties, local communities, the U. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Land and Water Conservation Fund, and the Outdoor Recreation Grants office of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
The Pearl River Boatway consists of ten parks totaling 981 acres stretching from Neshoba County to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The park is located on the Pearl River and its facilities include: 12 RV campsites with water and electricity, bathhouse, baseball field, boat ramp, pavilion, comfort station, picnic tables and grills.

Later those counties were subdivided and in 1872 portions of Marion and Hancock counties were used by the State Legislature to organize "Pearl" County.
Pearl County lasted only a few years because the building used as the Court House burned, and since the South had recently lost the Civil War, there was simply on tax-base with which to re-build.
In 1900, the town of Lumberton withdrew from Pearl River County and was annexed by Lamar County.

As a volunteer for the Animal Shelter at 1700 Palestine Road, and as Secretary-Treasurer of the Pearl River County SPCA, I speak to a number of people about shelter operations.
In February 1998, the SPCA signed one-year contracts with the City and County under which the SPCA was obligated to operate the shelter for a stipulated amount of money each month.
This year, we did request an additional $800 per month, based on the position that the City and County should cover at least salaries and payroll taxes (approximately $67,500/year), which comprise only 45% of the total operating expenses.
