For Chinese, Peasant Revolt Is Rare Victory
Angry residents overturned several police cars April 10 during a peasant revolt in which police officers carrying out a raid were beaten and driven away by 20,000 residents protesting an industrial park that was eventually shut down.
By the time dawn broke, up to 20,000 peasants from the half-dozen villages that make up Huaxi township had responded to the alarm, participants recounted, and they were in no mood to bow to authority.
Peasants and workers left behind by China's economic boom increasingly have resorted to the kind of unrest that ignited in Huaxi.

Peasant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Peasants exist in a world before the modern division of labor: a peasant must be a jack-of-all trades, handy at everything.
Peasants live to agricultural time; the "world-time", in Fernand Braudel's term, of politics and economics does not directly affect the peasant.
Peasants tend to be more conservative than urbanites, and are often very loyal to inherited power structures that define their rights and privileges and protect them from interlopers, despite their generally low status within them.

Peasant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the great majority of pre-industrial societies, peasants constitute the bulk of the population, the authentic "silent majority".
A new consciousness of inalienable rights and new, unjust impositions from above contributed to the popular (or peasant) uprisings of the 14th century, the breakdown of the feudal system and the rise of modernity.
Once a money economy had intruded on the old agricultural order, the peasant was slowly transformed into the laborer for wages, or he might hold a precarious position as an independent smallholder, one of the "yeomen" of sentimental history.

 Daily Life--Peasants
The average peasant lived in a two room cottage that was constructed of mud plastered branches and straw or of stone and wood with a roof of thatch.
Peasants mainly grew crops of corn, beans, and wheat.
In peasant families, where every person was needed to work the fields, infants were sometimes left alone in the home for long periods of time, or in the care of a brother or sister who was as young as 2 or 3.

Math Forum: Ask Dr. Math FAQ: Russian Peasant Multiplication
Russian peasant multiplication is actually a quick way to convert two numbers to binary form, multiply them together, and convert back to our number system.
The connection is not surprising, because binary numbers use base two, and Russian peasant multiplication depends on multiplying and dividing by two.
Russian peasant multiplication does the same thing, but because it leaves out several steps, the process is much faster.

This great mass of poor peasants, or altogether 70 per cent of the rural population, are the backbone of the peasant associations, the vanguard in the overthrow of the feudal forces and the heroes who have performed the great revolutionary task which for long years was left undone.
Once the peasants have their organization, the first thing they do is to smash the political prestige and power of the landlord class, and especially of the local tyrants and evil gentry, that is, to pull down landlord authority and build up peasant authority in rural society.
Comparatively speaking, the peasants were not so much concerned with the president of the Republic, the provincial military governor [18] or the county magistrate; their real "bosses" were these rural monarchs.

 The lifestyle of Medieval Peasants
The lifestyle of peasants in Medieval England was extremely hard and harsh.
The peasants were at the bottom of the Feudal System and had to obey their local lord to whom they had sworn an oath of obedience on the Bible.
This means that they are bound by law and custom to plough the field of their masters, harvest the corn, gather it into barns, and thresh and winnow the grain; they must also mow and carry home the hay, cut and collect wood, and perform all manner of tasks of this kind.

Peasant Agitation in Italy   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The peasants' state of severe and chronic deprivation, characterized by inadequate housing, chronic disease, particularly pellagra and malaria, was compounded by heavy indebtedness and taxation.
Peasants in the mainland provinces of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, and in many mountain regions throughout the peninsula, resented the frequent purchases and misappropriations of communal lands by private individuals.
Peasant demonstrations, plantings of liberty trees, and the destruction of tax records followed the news of urban agitations in Palermo and Naples (January), Genoa, Turin, Livorno, Florence and Rome (February), Milan and Venice (March).

The hut of the cottar, the poorest peasants in a typical village, was typically a single room perhaps sixteen by twelve feet.
It seems clear that peasants did not live with their animals out of choice, but rather because structures like the long house were the economic solution to a problem.
More prosperous peasants built separate barns for their animals, placing the barn at right angles to the house to emphasize the distinction.

Lenin: Social-Democracy's Attitude Towards the Peasant Movement
Indeed, it is the revolutionary-democratic aspect of the peasant uprisings and a particular organisation of the rural proletariat in a class party that at present form the crux of the matter for us, as distinct from the petty-bourgeois Socialist-Revolutionaries.
Class antagonism between the rural proletariat and the peasant bourgeoisie is unavoidable, and we disclose it in advance, explain it, and prepare for the struggle on the basis of that antagonism.
We are in favour of a peasant uprising.
