OFF THE TELLY: Reviews/2004/Goodbye Pebble Mill
This was how Pebble Mill at One had lived and died - poking around the world we live in with continual delight, from Paul Coia exclaiming "flip!" to Bob Langley bigging up yet another parachutist dropping in or military band churning up the gardens outside.
Pebble Mill always celebrated people - it was a "people show" before the term was coined and then all spent-out - so it was great that this documentary let those "real" people on the periphery step forward for a bit.
And even though, for me, Pebble Mill had actually closed down some 18 years before, I still felt a slight pang that those large windows, for so many years the backdrop to happy memories, would no longer have noses pressed against them as a family day out in Birmingham reached its big climax.

As with all other BBC regions, BBC Birmingham is responsible for providing local radio services and the regional television news broadcasts on BBC One during the times when all regions opt out of the network feed to provide their own local news programming, which in the BBC Birmingham area is called Midlands Today.

If a larger mill is built it could require an investment of up to $1.5 billion, compared to up to $1 billion estimated for a 100,000 ton-per-day mine, according to Bruce Jenkins, the company's chief operating officer.
Whether or not the larger mill is built, Jenkins said the company is also investigating the option of building a 56-mile concentrate slurry pipeline to transport ore concentrates to a new deepwater port on the west side of Cook Inlet, as an alternative to trucking the concentrates to the port.
If a mill were built to process 200,000 tons per day, Jenkins said about 40 to 60 trucks could be needed daily to move the concentrates by road to a concentrate loading port at Iniskin Bay, on the inlet.
