If you're the type of player who digs rolling off at the guitar, this is the pedal you want.
This is the Billy Gibbons tone or early Hendrix sound.
The pedal is "on" as long as you have a cable plugged into the input jack, so make sure to unplug the cable when it is not in use to conserve battery life.

Pedal tone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pedal tones are special notes in the harmonic series of cylindrical-bore brass instruments.
The resulting tone relies heavily on overtones for its perception, but in the hands of a skilled player, pedal tones can be controlled and can sound characteristic to the instrument.
Pedal tones are called for occasionally in advanced brass literature, particularly in that of the trombone.

Pedal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bicycle pedal: on a bicycle, each of two platforms at the end of the crankarms, connected such that while the crank arms rotate, the pedals can stay parallel to the shoe soles; this human powered rotation provides the propulsion, usually through a bicycle chain that makes the back wheel turn.
Pedal tone: a nonchord tone, usually the tonic or dominant held for an extended period of time.
Not to be confused with a paddle or petal.

 Tonefrenzy
Some players prefer to use boost pedals for an over-the-top solo, fatten or enhance their original tone, or prevent from degrading their original signal that may occur due to guitar cord length, quality, or through a series of male to female jack connections.
All pedals' volume or level knobs fully CCW positions were identical, allowing accurate comparisons between pedals and their affects on the original signal or tone.
Harmonics were slightly affected by the FB pedal in comparison to the original guitar to amp signal using the boost unison to amp signal.

Non-Chord Tones   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Double Passing Tone: occurs when the stepwise traversing from one chord tone to another involves two non-chord tones, thus melodically filling in the interval of a 4th with two tones rather than filling in a 3rd with a single tone.
Pedal point: the name is derived from the organist's technique of holding down a pedal (to strengthen the tonality) while playing different harmonies above it.
Inverted or Inner Pedal Tone: is a pedal tone which is in the upper or middle part rather than in the bass.

How to play pedal tones on trumpet
Learning to "push" that pedal C to "where you want it", is central to the value of pedal tone study.
In short, I think it is a "mistake" to settle for Pedal C - 1-2-3 fingering, because it circumvents the development of one of the essential elements of the "MODERN CLARINBLASEN" - the art of sounding the 4 ft trumpet from the 8th through 32nd partials.
You may cut back on the pedal tones after you are CERTAIN that you have the correct "feel".

One is to use the overdrive in conjunction with your amp; that is, use the overdrive pedal to augment your amp’s inherent tone.
This method is less dependent on the tone of your amp, and players often use their pedals this way.
Their tone is based on the pedal’s tone; the amp is just making it louder.

It really does not sound like all the OD is coming from the pedal and the slight push to the front end of the amp given by putting the “level” knob at 10-11 o’clock which just gives it a little kick in the pants.
The tone control on the guitar is rolled off a bit and it makes a nice contrast to the lead track, which is pretty twangy.
The pedal is an instrument that bonds with the instrument that is the guitar and the amp, becoming one instrument.

Having it on pedal nine gave me the independent use of it but the trade-off was loss of expression by having to take my foot off the volume pedal.

This is a great pedal to tweak the sound of your amp [esp. in front of amp], or to generate a psecific boost for rhythm/solo parts.
The pedal is not noisy unless you crank the pedal volume knob up, and then there is some grainy sound (not static, but noise) coming out of the pedal -- not a real bad problem, but one that I have heard with a number of overdrive pedals.
This pedal does a superb job of midfrequency boost -- the tone is very good and if you are into rock music with either an aggressive edge or even a pop/rock flavor this pedal offers some interesting alternatives for your tone.

A pedal mixture composed of either the incisive, small-scale Strings or the larger-scale pipes that sound more like Principals.
This permits the pedal scale to be ascended without changes in the weight or harmonic structure of the tone.
Third-sounding ranks are less likely to be seen in pedal mixtures than they are in manual mixtures, since the pedal tone is more usable as a tone-builder than as a melody line.

Big difference between these two pedals would be headroom, distortion style and distortion depth and treble response, output level, function of tone knob, color, symbol....they do share a common layout of mechanical components.
It is good to have one pedal with buffered output or you would loose some signal and high end even with best cables if you drive two cables and few short one between pedals.
Now, some sixty years since their introduction, they are known as clean boosts, and as such have traveled down the effects-chain to a place were their boosting action translates into more dynamics (at footswitch control) as levels can be changed instead of degree of distortion (This is often taken care of elsewhere nowadays).
