Pekiti has its roots in the early styles of Kali that were practiced by Filipinos (Kalimen) around the time of Magellan's arrival in the Philippines in the 16th century.
One of these styles was called Pangamut and was practiced by the tribes of Lapulapu and Humabon.

I had been told that Sayoc was developed from Pekiti Tirsia and hence is not as old as claimed.
Before their exposure to Pekiti Tirsia Kali, the Sayocs were teaching tae kwon do.
During his time with G.M. Gaje, people begain to study what he was demonstrating and came up with their version, thus the pekiti tersia system of knife fighting, which it is quite well known for, are modified versions of Sayoc kali.

I will admit I started out in a school that taught Pekiti Tirsia, many years ago, and it didnt suit me. It was very complicated, and the way it was taught lacked the kind of structure I need.
That being said, Pekiti Tirsia is one of the more complex FMAs out there, so while it has produced good fighters, it is not for everyone.
Pekiti Tirsia was known for being very much a promoter of full contact sparring, but then the school I was in never sparred.

All politics aside, the thread you are referring to was posted by individuals looking to stir up issues(not your original thread but some of the others spawned from it).
Having studied both Pekiti Tirsia Kali, and Sayoc Kali.
So whether or not Sayoc Kali had any origins in Pekiti Tersia, it should be judged now based on its own faults and merits, independently of anything it may have come from.

Pekiti Tirsia is just one of the systems of knife fighting in the Philippines.
And Escrima and Pekiti Tirsia are very similar, it's just a focus on Sticks versus knifes and probably some training methods which are different and the intensity with which they train.

Although I have been in Kali (Inosanto Lineage and a family system) for quite a while, I have recently started training with this group.
Pekiti tersia (to cut into small peices) is a very effective art from the Phillipine Islands that has a heavy emphasis on bladed combat.
All manner of weapons and tactics are used but they favor fighting with the blade if possible (unless a gun is present and then there is little doubt what comes next).

I was very happy to find that there is a martial arts school nearby my home (Sachetti martial arts academy) where they offer classes on Pekiti- Tirsia.
Ive been training in Pekiti Tirsia Kali for some time and find it to be a very effective and practical Art.
Pekiti is a great edged/impact empty hand system which all keys off your basic foundation footwork and basic striking mechanics.

Pekiti-Tirsia is the style of FMA developed by Leo Gage Jr..
I've studied Pekiti as well as Modern Arnis and also studied FMA under a fellow who was teaching what amounted to Inosanto Blend FMA out in Oregon.
As I recall, there are at least two Pekiti guys in the Dallas area.

Both pekiti tirsia and sayoc are blade arts, sayoc is more specifically a knife art.
My understanding of the differences are primarily on the training methods(sayoc kali is feeder based, whie PTK is going to cover offense and counter-offense equally).
