Pelagonian margins in central Evia island (Greece)
The northern margin of Pelagonia is represented by a Variscan basement overlain by syn- and post-rift sequences, separated by a volcano-sedimentary episode.
Therefore, at the beginning of the Mesozoic, Pelagonia was delimited by an active margin to the south and by a passive one to the north.
The most external sequences of the Pelagonia northern margin (Evia) were quickly submerged during the Kimmeridgian-Tithonian as a consequence of the flexuration of the passive margin in front of the ophiolite obduction.
