 A Ranger’s Tale » Why Pelennor Fields?
The “Pelennor Fields” are the lands surrounding Minas Tirith of Gondor.
The movie did not even come close to doing this scene justice, and the whole backdrop of the Pelennor Fields was largely bogus (for one thing, Tolkien’s plains described in the books bear no resemblance to the Palouse in Washington State, unlike their cinematic counterparts).

Christchurch: Mountain Chalets - Twizel - Traveler Reviews - The Pelennor Fields - TripAdvisor
We chose Mountain Chalets on the recommendation of Queenstown Travel Centre who in fact booked all our hotels in NZ (ask for Leonie)The Chalets are easy to find just off the main road close to the Heliport for Mt Cook heliflights, which we took advantage of.
We also booked a Pelennor Fields Trip, our guide was a lovely guy called Vernon, he is very knowledgeable having worked on the sets of Lord of the Rings.
It is however a beautiful part of the country and and an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area.
